The New Canadian Immunity Program

What's New, What's Different; What you need to know to conduct an integrated approach to Amnesty in North America

November 29, 2007

12:00 PM - 1:30 PM EST

Jeffrey S. Jacobovitz, leader of Schiff Hardin's Washington D.C. Litigation practice, will co-moderate a luncheon on "The New Canadian Immunity Program: What's New, What's Different; What you need to know to conduct an integrated approach to Amnesty in North America," sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). This luncheon will take place in Toronto.

The program will undertake a detailed review of the recently issued Immunity Bulletin under the Canadian Competition Act and the FAQs that were issued by the Bureau to clarify practical questions about the administration of Canada's Immunity Program. With an increasingly integrated North American economy, continental sales and distribution networks for major participants in North American markets, the handling of Section 1 cases routinely has a Canadian connection. To properly manage the pitfalls in this critical area, practitioners in both Canada and the United States must have at their fingertips an understanding of the similarities and the differences in U.S. and Canadian amnesty practice, and the new Canadian Bulletin sets out some major changes since the publication of the Competition Bureau's first Immunity Bulletin in 2000.
