Litigators and the Public

American Bar Association Section of Litigation 2008 Ethics Centennial Symposium

April 19, 2008

8:30 AM - 9:45 AM EDT

Barry S. Alberts
Barry S. Alberts, a partner in Schiff Hardin's Litigation Group, will speak at the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Litigation 2008 Ethics Centennial Symposium. Mr. Alberts' session is "Litigators and the Public." The symposium is scheduled for April 18 and 19 at The Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill hotel in Washington, DC.

Mr. Alberts' session will discuss issues relating to whether the courts are too quick to find duties beyond the client, creating a risk that potential liability to third parties will compromise primary obligations, and whether litigators are fulfilling the obligation to serve and educate the public.

The symposium seeks to examine the environment of 21st-century litigation and address the role that professional standards should play, or perhaps should not play, in helping navigate current and future challenges.
