Beth Blackwood concentrates her practice in general litigation. She has experience representing clients with respect to breach-of-contract claims, fraud and related business torts, trademark infringement, legal malpractice as well as white collar criminal defense matters.
Ms. Blackwood was a member of the trial team that defended Mark S. Kipnis, former Hollinger International Inc. executive and corporate counsel, in United States v. Conrad Black, et al. Ms. Blackwood's responsibilities included motion drafting and witness preparation.
Ms. Blackwood was also a member of the trial team representing a large law firm in a legal malpractice case. Ms. Blackwood's duties included preparation of jury instructions and significant motion practice.
Ms. Blackwood is co-chair of Schiff Hardin's Community Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS), which provides counseling for indigent clients in domestic relations, public benefits and breach of contract matters.
She is a member of the trial team representing a petitioner in a Georgia capital habeas corpus proceeding, Lawler v. Terry, Warden. Ms. Blackwood's duties have included witness preparation, witness examination and post-hearing briefing.
She also served as co-counsel for a client seeking criminal appellate relief in the Illinois Appellate Court, First Judicial District.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Blackwood was a grant writer at L.E.A.P., a nonprofit organization in New Haven, Conn. that provided mentoring services for inner-city children.
