Schiff Hardin LLP Honored with "Bill of Rights in Action" Award by the Constitutional Rights Foundation

September 17, 2008

Schiff Hardin LLP was one of several firms recognized by the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Chicago (CRFC) with the "Bill of Rights in Action" Award, for devotion and skill in representing clients incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay.

For several years, on a pro bono basis, Schiff Hardin lawyers have represented detainees at Guantanamo, as part of the nationwide effort to restore procedural due process rights to those held in that prison. Two of Schiff Hardin's clients have been returned to their home country, Saudi Arabia, and after brief detentions there were released. Two more Schiff Hardin clients still are being held.  The CRFC honored Schiff Hardin lawyers Ismail Alsheik, Steven M. Bocknek, Antony S. Burt, Michael W. Drumke, Beth D. Jacob, Jeffrey S. Jacobovitz, Donald A. Klein, Henry Lee Mann, Brian J. Neff, and Charles H.R. Peters, as well as Managing Clerk, Louis P. Bonilla.

Each year, the CRFC gives the "Bill of Rights in Action" Award to individuals and organizations who, because of their professional commitment and community involvement, provide exemplary models of citizenship for our nation's young people. This year’s award was presented by Gloria Santona of the McDonald's Corporation with a reception held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the Union League Club.  For more information about the CRFC or the awards, visit www.crfc.org.
